The album "Devil In The Woodpile" is strongly influenced by the Mississippi Fife'n'Drum tradition that helped shape Blues music. Fife'n'Drum is a blues music form derived from the military fife and drum bands that crossed the ocean from Europe (think -"When Johnnie Comes Marching Home"). In the hands of African Americans, especially during the American Civil War, this music style was shaped by the African rhythms, still a powerful part of the psyche of the slaves. Collard Greens & Gravy have taken these grooves, and in their own style, transformed them into some thing fresh and compelling.
